The Stoker submarine rescue ship (RGS 9316) is a joint project between Z189 Factory - General Department of Defense Industry and Damen Shipbuilding Company (Netherlands), the ship was launched in May 2015 and handed over to Royal Australian Navy in late 2015. RGS 9316, has a length of 93.2 m, a width of 16 m, and a displacement of around 3,690 tonnes. The Rescue Gear Ship, MV Stoker, along with her sister ship, MV Besant, are the latest enhancement to Navy’s submarine search and rescue capability. V Stoker is named after the Commanding Officer of the First World War submarine HMAS AE2, Lieutenant Henry Stoker.
